Many of the celebrities we see acting in movies or television shows have multiple talents. After spending so much time around various scripts, it is only natural that some comedic actors decide to put pen to paper and write a book. This gives us the opportunity to see a side of someone that we’ve never seen before, probably because we’ve constantly seen them portray someone else.
Here are a few books available in the JMRL catalog that are written by comedians:
A Million Ways to Die in the West by Seth MacFarlane – Pays homage to the traditional Western with a modern comic spin, following a cowardly farmer who seeks the help of a gunslinger’s wife to win back the woman who left him.
Bossypants by Tina Fey – From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live; from her passionately halfhearted pursuit of physical beauty to her life as a mother eating things off the floor; from her one-sided college romance to her nearly fatal honeymoon, comedian Tina Fey reveals all, and proves that you’re no one until someone calls you bossy.
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling – Kaling shares her observations, fears, and opinions about a wide-ranging list of the topics she thinks about the most. From her favorite types of guys to life in the “The Office” writers’ room, her book is full of personal stories and laugh-out-loud philosophies.
Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea by Chelsea Handler – The popular stand-up comedienne and star of such shows as “Girls Behaving Badly” and “Chelsea Lately” celebrates the highs and lows of her life, from her relationships with a series of fetish-fulfilling paramours to an unorthodox dog-sitting stint.
I Am America (And So Can You!) by Stephen Colbert – The host of Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” offers his opinions, untarnished by facts or research, on important issues in modern American society, including higher education, pets, religion, sports, sex, and the Hollywood agenda.
The staff at the library will be happy to help you find the book that is just right for you.
