Discover our new Regional Author Speaker Series!

Join us on Sunday, November 6 at 2:00 PM as nationally-known Civil War expert and University of Virginia history professor, Gary Gallagher, presents a talk based on his latest book, “The Union War.”  The topic is about what motivated Union soldiers to fight for the Union cause.  The event takes place in the McIntire Room on the third floor of the Central branch in downtown Charlottesville. Light refreshments will be served and a book selling and signing will take place after the talk and question-and-answer session.  Gary Gallagher is the author or editor of several well-regarded books, including “Lee and His Generals in War and Memory,” “The Confederate War,” and “Causes Won, Lost, and Forgotten: How Hollywood and Popular Art Shape What We Know about the Civil War.”

This is the second in a four-part guest speaker series where we feature a Charlottesville-area author to give a talk and question-and-answer session based on a book that he or she has written.  The book can be either fiction or non-fiction and does not have to be a Charlottesville-related subject.  Our aim is to promote our local writers to the community.  Please attend and let us know what you think of the series.  We are willing to take recommendations of your favorite local authors for future programs.
