The Jefferson-Madison Regional Library is proud to announce that The Right to Literacy scroll will be here at the Central Branch Tuesday July 20th and Wednesday July 21st. Mayor Dave Norris will be signing the scroll at 10 am Tuesday morning and the scroll will remain available for the public to sign all day during business hours on the 20th and 21st.
The scroll is part of campaign to promote literacy for all people and was conceived last summer at the first ever Right to Literacy Convention in Buffalo, New York. The Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville Albemarle have brought the scroll here to JMRL so that all concerned patrons and citizens may contribute their signatures to this extremely important document. The ultimate aim is for the scroll to have over a million signatures before it is presented to President Obama to sign in September.
You can read the text of the scroll here.
Hope to see you soon.
