WHAT: JMRL AND BLUBIRD & CO. COMMUNITY POETRY SLAM
WHEN: Saturday, Feb. 17, 4-6 p.m.
WHERE: Bluebird & Co. Annex, 5792 Three Notch’d Road, Crozet
JMRL’s Crozet Library teams up with local bookseller Bluebird & Co. to present a Community Poetry Slam on Saturday, Feb. 17. Poets and writers, ages 14 and up, are invited to perform and compete for a prize from Bluebird & Co. All forms of poetry are welcome. The event is free and open to the public and light refreshments will be provided.
The Slam will be hosted by the current Crozet Teen Poet Laureate, Sadie Adams, a senior at Western Albemarle High School, and features local poets Madisen Kuhn and Hannah Joel, who will serve as judges.
The event also serves as the launch of the inaugural JMRL Teen Poet Laureate contest. What began last year as a local Crozet contest is now open to students, ages 14-18, residing in the City of Charlottesville, and the counties of Albemarle, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson. The winner becomes the teen ambassador and serves in a one-year role to help raise interest in poetry across the region.
Online applications for the JMRL Teen Poet Laureate contest will be accepted February 17– March 24.
