JMRL to offer UVA Library materials

As libraries in Central Virginia continue to adjust their services based on ever-changing health regulations, JMRL and UVA Libraries have revised existing interlibrary loan services (ILL) in order to provide increased access to materials.

This service will make the University’s circulating collections available to the community through JMRL while UVA Libraries remain closed to the public.

JMRL’s Library Director, David Plunkett, said the partnership will be a positive addition to the resources already being provided to patrons.

“JMRL is thrilled to be able to partner with UVA libraries to make so many great resources available to the people of Charlottesville, Albemarle, Greene, Louisa and Nelson, especially now when access to information is more important than ever,” Plunkett said.

Carmelita Pickett, Associate University Librarian for Scholarly Resources & Content Strategy, said, “UVA Libraries values and supports the role of public universities. This partnership represents an exciting opportunity to further public access to research collections.”

“We value this partnership and the waived fees ensures equitable access to community members experiencing financial hardships,” she said.

For this service, only materials from UVA Libraries will be available, patrons can request that UVA materials be picked up at any JMRL branch, and JMRL’s $3 fee will be waived during the Library’s COVID-19 response period.

“A special thank you to JMRL and library personnel from UVA Libraries Access Services and Collections for making sure this partnership moved from an idea into a service,” Pickett said.
