The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) has announced the top 10 teen titles for 2018. Thousands of teens from all over the globe voted for the following books as this year’s best young adult novels. You can borrow any of these titles from the JMRL catalog:
- Turtles All the Way Down by John Green – Aza Holmes, a teen with obsessive-compulsive disorder, becomes focused on searching for a fugitive billionaire.
- One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus – When one of five students in detention is found dead, his high-profile classmates are investigated and revealed to be the subjects of the victim’s latest gossip postings.
- Warcross by Marie Lu – After hacking into the Warcross Championships’ opening game to track illegal betting, bounty hunter Emika Chen is asked by the game’s creator to investigate a security problem, and she uncovers a sinister plot.
- Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo – Longing to prove herself to her legendary warrior sisters, Diana risks exile when she saves Alia, a Warbringer.
- Caraval by Stephanie Garber – A long-desired invitation to Caraval, the annual audience-participation show, prods Tella and Scarlett to escape their powerful, cruel father, but upon arriving Tella is kidnapped as part of the game.
- Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds – 15-year-old Will contemplates over the course of 60 psychologically suspenseful seconds whether or not he is going to murder the person who killed his brother.
- I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Erika L. Sánchez – When the sister who delighted their parents by her faithful embrace of Mexican culture dies in a tragic accident, Julia, who longs to go to college and move into a home of her own, discovers from mutual friends that her sister may not have been so perfect.
- Paper Hearts by Ali Novak – After discovering a shocking family secret, Felicity and her friends embark on a road trip to find her missing sister.
- Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor – In the aftermath of a war between gods and men, a hero, a librarian, and a girl must battle the fantastical elements of a mysterious city stripped of its name.
- Once and For All by Sarah Dessen – Cynical about happy endings, Louna, the daughter of a wedding planner, initially holds Ambrose at arm’s length, but Ambrose has finally found someone to save him from his serial dating ways, and he’s not about to be discouraged.
