Welcoming Week 2024

Parktake in celebrating the diversity of Charlottesville as JMRL celebrates Welcoming Week!

Welcoming Week takes place September 13-22 and you can attend a variety of events hosted by various organizations in the Charlottesville area with the hope of bringing together immigrants, refugees, and those born in Charlottesville.

Central and Northside libraries will be hosting the following programs from September 13-22:

Northside

  • Adult Programs
    • English Conversation Circle: Would you like to practice your English speaking skills with others who are also learning English? Join our online conversation circle. Library staff will guide the conversation in an informal, no-pressure setting. The first and third Tuesdays are in person, and the second, fourth and fifth Tuesdays are over zoom.  To sign up and receive this month’s schedule please email Rneff@jmrl.org.
      Tuesday, September 17th: 10:30am
  • Children Programs
    • Bilingual Storytime:  All ages welcome. Enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes in English and Spanish. No registration required. All ages welcome. Children must be with a caregiver.

      Disfrute con nosotros cuentos, canciones, y rondas infantiles en español e inglés. No se necesita registrarse. Bienvenidas personas de todas las edades. Padres/madres deben acompañar a sus hijos.

    • English Conversation Table: Join JMRL for a conversation! English language learners of all levels are welcome to join.
      Thursday, September 19th: 1pm 
    • Teas of the World: Join Mikaela Deighan of the Twisted Branch Tea Bazaar for a special presentation and tasting of teas from around the world for Welcoming Week 2024.
      Saturday, September 14th: 10:30am
  • Children Programs
    •  Author Visit and Storytime with Kashmira Sheth: All Ages. Join the Central Children’s staff for a Welcome Week storytime with local author Kashmira Sheth as she presents her newest book “I’m From Here Too”. She will share her experiences as a young immigrant in the US and discuss her books. After the event, there will be a raffle, a book signing  and a tasting of delicious Indian foods provided by Milan Indian Cuisine. Bluebird Bookshop will have books available to purchase.
