LVA On the GO brings genealogy workshop to Nelson Memorial Library August 12

JMRL welcomes the Library of Virginia’s LVA On the Go to Nelson Memorial Library, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, August 12.

LVA On the Go is a state-of-the-art vehicle that tours the commonwealth to enhance awareness of the Library of Virginia’s collections and resources, strengthen ties to local organizations, capture stories and histories from community members, and provide a memorable and fun experience—all to celebrate the LVA’s 200th year.

“As we approach our third century, it’s important that we offer additional ways for individuals of all ages who may not ever have the opportunity to visit us in Richmond to learn about our rich and diverse collections and programs and share their stories,” said Librarian of Virginia Sandra Treadway. “Our custom-built vehicle presents opportunities to connect to a wider audience across the state.”

“JMRL is delighted that Nelson Memorial Library is included as one of LVA On the Go’s stops this summer,” said Library Director David Plunkett. “It’s a fun way to introduce the community to the rich resources that the Library of Virginia makes available to all citizens.”

The schedule of activities at Nelson Memorial Library includes presentations on genealogy resources by the Nelson County Historical Society and the Library of Virginia, as well as children’s genealogy activities and an introduction to scanning services by Nelson Library staff.
