Life on the bookmobile is a bit different from the other JMRL branches.  We all have our ups and downs, our good days and bad, but there are some situations one only encounters out on the road.

One of the most fun aspects of driving the bookmobile is being in parades!   Sometimes they’re big ones, like the Dogwood Festival Parade, and sometimes they’re a bit smaller, more hometown.  The Batesville Day Parade is one of the best of these.  Batesville Day has been held annually in the spring for over 40 years in lovely ‘downtown’ Batesville.  The day starts with a 10K race and ends at a village fair with games, prizes, food, and a tug-of-war involving firefighters.  In between is the parade.   As far as I can tell, anyone can be in this parade.  So there are the Grand Marshall and beautiful floats, tractors and kids on bikes with playing cards clipped to the spokes, school marching bands and the Morris Men.  And one time, I was in the bookmobile behind the Lions Club.  They were awesome!  They were in their yellow Lions Club t-shirts and khaki slacks or skirts – complete with lions’ tails!  And each one carried a Lions Club broom.  The precision drill work those Lions did with those brooms would have made any color guard proud.  They were a huge hit with the crowd gathered along the parade route and I had a front-row seat in the bookmobile behind them.  An excellent day!
