Each year at the San Diego Comic-Con, Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards are given to the best and brightest from the comic book and graphic novel genres. Known as the “Oscars of the comic world,” the Eisner awards recognize works from the year before through a variety of categories.

Best Graphic Album: This One Summer by Mariko & Jillian Tamaki – The team behind Skim presents the sumptuous graphic tale of a young teen whose latest summer at a beach lake house is overshadowed by her parents’ constant arguments, her younger friend’s secret sorrows and the dangerous activities of older teens.
Best Publication for Kids: El Deafo by Cece Bell – A poignant graphic tale based on the creator’s own experiences with hearing loss follows the adventures of young Cece, who develops “superpowers” to manage the challenges of making friends while wearing a bulky hearing aid that sometimes lets her hear things she shouldn’t.
