Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of The Simpsons

The Simpsons and Their Mathematical Secrets book cover.On December 17, 1989, the first episode of The Simpsons debuted on television. 25 years later, the show is still a staple of American television. It is the longest-running American sitcom, the longest-running American animated program, and the longest-running American scripted primetime television series. In 2000, the Simpsons were even awarded their very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Last year, Simon Singh published a book about the titular family, called The Simpsons and Their Mathematical Secrets. Based on interviews with the writers of The Simpsons and accompanied by images from the show, facsimiles of scripts, paintings and drawings and other imagery, this fascinating book reveals the meaningful mathematical concepts behind the most successful show in TV history.
