Some time ago, I blogged about how I loved my book club. We’ve been together for almost 10 years and I rarely miss a meeting. My book club brings a group of book lovers together, encourages us to read books outside our comfort zone, and gives us the exquisite pleasure of talking about books. The books we read expand our consciousness of how other people cope with life’s challenges. One of the most pleasant aspects of our discussions is the stories we share from our own experiences that relate to the books we’ve read. We don’t always like the books we read but we always enjoy talking about them.
If you’re already in a book group or are interested in organizing one, please join us for “Calling All Book Clubs” at the Central Library on Saturday, March 24th at 10 AM. It’s one of the many excellent programs during the Virginia Festival of the Book. We’ll discuss various formats for organizing a book group, learn about library resources to help facilitate discussions and of course, there will be abundant recommendations for good books to read.
